Washington reiterates its support for Ukraine just a few days before Joseph Biden’s visit to Poland.
John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House, reiterated Friday that Washington would continue to back Kyiv “for as long as it takes” and said, “We can confidently state that our support for Ukraine remains steadfast and that the international coalition backing Ukraine is greater than ever.”
This declaration comes as US President Joseph Biden prepares to travel to Poland, a nation that borders Ukraine, the following week. On Tuesday, he will make a sad statement in the Warsaw Palace. According to John Kirby, he will want to “send a message to [Vladimir] Putin as much as the Russian people” three days before the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine.
Joe Biden needs to ease concerns about US support in the future. The Republican opposition, some of whom are threatening to challenge aid to Ukraine, helped the president, who intends to seek office again in 2024, lose control of one of the two chambers of Congress in November without, so far, seriously upending the political consensus.
