The fight “may persist for many, many years,” says NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, nearly a year after Russia invaded Ukraine.
The Alliance’s Secretary General, the Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg, cautioned in an interview with AFP that NATO must get ready for a protracted struggle with Russia because President Vladimir Putin has shown no signs of wanting to make peace one year after invading Ukraine.

NATO is concerned about a new Russian onslaught following a year of the war that has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties on both sides. He reaffirmed that the 30 Alliance members are still as committed as ever to seeing that Ukraine ultimately prevails.
He said, “We are here to ensure that Ukraine wins this war and to give it the weaponry, ammunition, and support it needs. “It will be tragic for Ukrainians if President Putin wins in Ukraine. But it will also be risky because he and other authoritarian leaders will believe they can use military force to achieve their objectives.
